ALWAYS OVERSERVED is a throw-back to less politically correct times and the days of cartoon digests like HUMORAMA and MAD Magazine. Visit us daily for cartoons, uncensored material and other good stuff to help you get through your day with a shot of funny.

New Cartoon for Thursday!

Thursday, October 14, 2010

Many of you may not believe this but I have a very low self esteem and the only way I can motivate myself to get out of bed in the morning is to achieve low levels of recognition from local newspapers. That's where you come in. Please vote for ALWAYS OVERSERVED BLOG for a WESTWORD WEB AWARDS. Go here and copy a link from AO in the ARTS BLOG column. Proceeds go to charity! (disclaimer: proceeds do not go to charity).

Greeting cards now available from the Cartoonist Studio!

Some of my Halloween cards are now up on the greeting card store at the Cartoonist Studio website. The store is just recently online and my stuff is up there with some really great cartoonists. Check it out!

Here are some great gags from the old days over at Mike Lynch's blog. Enjoy!

I might be a thief!

A while back I sketched out this idea for a cartoon:

Yesterday I noticed this cartoon from the archives on Mark Anderson's blog (which I've been reading for a while). While the gag line is a bit different the joke is essentially the same. Did I subconsciously steal the joke? Probably. But I figure as long as I give the man credit my conscience is clear! Thanks Mark!

ALWAYS OVERSERVED at the movies!

(Click on the image to see it full size)

I'll be adding more multi-panel strips in the weeks to come. Loyal reader(s), tell me what you think!

A preview of my Halloween card line.

We joke but food-borne illness is no laughing matter... Please, for the sake of the children, keep your dips and sauces refrigerated!

P.S. - Extra points if you can identify any of the costumes from the background players.

Take that, recent Hollywood trends!

For those of you that felt like your 3D experience at the movie was less than engaging.

I'm working on a bunch of seasonally specific cartoons so Halloween is coming early with some spooky and absurd cartoons from ALWAYS OVERSERVED!

Thursday, September 9, 2010

I know from the angry emails and death threats that some of my more ardent fans have been feeling a large gaping void in their lives the past few weeks. Oh thee of little faith, I have not abandoned ... uh... thee. I have been busy working on material for some greeting card companies but I've also been slaving away on some Always Overserved surprises and a whole batch of new cartoons to help get you through your boring, laugh-free, workday. Check back on Monday!

Also stay tuned and I'll tell you how you can send a lavishly rendered ecard (like the one above) to your spouse, parent or mistress for a price that is far cheaper than actually traveling to visit them (in their respective government-mandated holding cells). It all starts next week!

I've got an idea for a gimmick, how about a special "transparent" bottle so that you can see if your beer is full or not? Save time by not having to wildly stab at the dark when it comes to determining the contents of your beer!

Friday's cartoon. Have a fun pantless weekend!

Is it 'pantless' or 'pantsless'?  Wait, is there a hyphen in there? Aw screw it I'm going to Clancy's...

ACE HI TAVERN - Golden, Colorado

We here at ALWAYS OVERSERVED believe that old bar signs are not merely relics of the past but enduring works of art that should be celebrated. Here is the first of our international tour of watering holes, taverns, bars, dives and dumps who's signs remain as beacons to a disappearing world of booze joints of the past.

Go here to read more about the ACE HI TAVERN.

Many of you have sent letters recently demanding to get the behind-the-scenes scoop on all of the hard work and brilliant innovation that goes into the daily Always Overserved cartoons that delight millions. So to keep the fans happy I thought I'd walk you through the basic steps to take a cartoon from idea to sketch to splendid full-color 72 DPI reality.

Step One: It all begins here:

When Inspiration strikes I first sketch out the idea in one of many bourbon-spattered Moleskine notebooks. For instance this classy little sketch below...

Up next exciting STEP TWO!..

Crap for sale!

Always Overserved "coffee" mug

Thumb your nose at authority figures with this clever invention. It looks and feels just like a real coffee mug but only you know that inside is something with a little more 'kick'. DISCLAIMER: Drinking anything but coffee in this mug will most likely get you fired and/or arrested. Always Overserved does not condone such behavior and you should be ashamed of yourself.

Quick sketch cartoon for Tuesday!

Here at ALWAYS OVERSERVED BLOG we don't always need to try to impress our readers with fancy colors and fully-conceived punchlines. We know that you are much too sophisticated to be dazzled by these gimmicks. Some may call it lazy, but I call it an artistic statement against the tyranny of flashy web cartoons and soul-less "finished" artwork.

New feature on Always Overserved, Monthly Mystery Bar!

I've sketched one of the many watering holes found in the greater Denver metro area but omitted the name. If you can post a comment and come up with the name of this establishment then we will send you a complementary mini bottle of Old Grandad Bonded Bourbon Whiskey. (DISCLAIMER: Actual bottle will be empty and/or will not be sent.)

Daily Cartoon for Wednesday!

Don't ever say that Always Overserved doesn't tackle the serious issues. When it comes to obesity in adult women and ill-fitting t-shirts we take a strong stance. We're against it.

Daily Cartoon for Tuesday!

Don't you hate it when the bartender cuts you off merely because it's 6:00 AM? Hey buddy, I pay your salary!

Daily Cartoon for Monday!

Exercise is important. But you have to make sure to do a proper cool-down when you're done. Most personal trainers agree, cheap PBR and .99 cent hot wings are the best way to avoid a serious muscle injury!
